Moira Purver
Moira’s first experience of sculpture was in her last year at school, when she was introduced to modelling in clay for firing. The 27” high rock climber, which Moira completed at that time, has travelled with her throughout her adult life.
Moira was in her 30’s before she tried more sculpture with two short courses in life modelling at West Dean. This was under the instruction of Alan Saunders and really fuelled her imagination and desire to go further.
In 2005/2006 Moira was further inspired during a two term course at the University of Hertfordshire – modelling from life and learning simple casting techniques. This time she was taught by Paul Bainbridge, himself a celebrated portrait sculptor.
Since then Moira has moved to Langton Matravers where she has set up her own studio and is enjoying developing her skills and working with other local artists. Moira is a member of the Surrey Sculpture Society and has had her work accepted by the Society of Women Artists for display in the Mall Gallery
