Ronald Jesty
Ronald Jesty trained to be draughtsman, and then started a career as a graphic designer, which lasted for over thirty years. In this capacity he produced designs and artwork for print, advertising and exhibitions. During is spare time he sketched and painted at every opportunity until in 1978, he gave up his graphic design business in order to concentrate on painting especially watercolours.
Born in Weymouth, but now living in just over the border in Somerset he has access to the nearby Dorset coast, an area which he particularly loves and where he finds many of his ideas and inspiration. Although the sea and coast provide the subjects which he most enjoys, Ron also likes to paint still-lifes and landscapes. He believes that it is important to have sound working methods and basic disciplines when learning to paint. From this thorough grounding a student’s stylistic freedom and individuality can later emerge and develop. (this part is taken from the art instruction book)
As well as being a contributor to many art publications and books on art and painting, he was the author of Harper-Collins How to Paint Series on Seascapes, now regrettably out of print.
In 1982 he became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists. He has been a part time lecturer at the College of Art on Yeovil and has had work exhibited in many exhibitions including the Royal West of England Summer Exhibition, Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and the Singer & Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour competition as well as many one man exhibitions in England and Canada.
